Is blood in stool always piles?
No. Piles cause painless bright bleeding, but colitis, polyps and cancer can look identical. After 45, or with any change in bowel habit, a colonoscopy is essential.
What does black stool mean?
Usually bleeding from the stomach or duodenum — often an ulcer. It needs an endoscopy within 24 hours.
Can bleeding be treated without surgery?
